When plague swept through Europe during the Thirty Years' War, the villagers of Oberammergau vowed to perform the story of Christ's Passion, Death and Resurrection every ten years if they were spared. Nearly four centuries later, they still do.
Nothing about it is commercial. The performers, musicians, choir, stage crew and volunteers are all residents of the village, carrying a tradition handed down through generations. That is what your clients are travelling for — and it is why the play sells differently from any other theatre product.

One day, two parts
The theatre seats the audience under cover and leaves the stage open to the Alps. Guests watch the first half in daylight and the second under stage light, with a long dinner break between.

Because the stage is open, weather is part of the experience. May and October evenings run cold, and the break falls outdoors. Advise layers, whatever the month.

Where guests sleep
Bookings are made by zone and category, never by hotel name. The Passion Play Office allocates the properties.
Zone 1
Hotels, guesthouses and pensions in the village where the Passion Play takes place.
Zone 2
Hotels in the Bavarian towns and villages around Oberammergau.
Process
Eleven steps from first enquiry to a secured allocation. The first one decides everything that follows.
Choose a preferred date from the schedule. Not every date offers the same package options — some dates are 1-Night only, others 2-Night only.
Zone 1 is Oberammergau itself. Zone 2 covers the surrounding region and includes round-trip transport on performance day.
Category A is 5-star, available in Zone 2 only. Category B is 4-star or a 5-star guest house. Reservations are made by category, never by hotel name.
Double and twin rooms may have one large bed or two singles. Bedding cannot be guaranteed; for guaranteed single occupancy, book a Double Room for Single Use or a Suite for 1 Person.
One preferred performance date and two alternatives. That is all it takes to start a request — we come back with what is actually available.
