How the release worked in 2022
The 2022 season followed a pattern that has held for several cycles. The Passion Play Office issued contingents to established tour operators and incoming agencies first. Those operators built packages around them, which is why the earliest bookable products were never bare tickets but arrangements including at least one night’s accommodation.
Only once that layer had been served did performance-only tickets reach the general public. By then the strongest dates in the middle of the season were largely committed, and travellers who wanted a specific weekend found themselves choosing from what remained.
Why the same order is likely for 2030
The reason is capacity, not policy. Oberammergau is a village of roughly five thousand people and the theatre seats several thousand per performance. The bottleneck is not the auditorium — it is beds. Selling tickets to people who have nowhere to sleep creates a problem the village cannot solve, so tickets and accommodation are deliberately released together for as long as possible.
That logic has not changed for 2030. Expect the same sequence unless the organisers announce otherwise.

Operators open their arrangements to travel advisors and, in some cases, direct to consumers. Choice narrows but remains workable, particularly outside the high summer weeks.

Performance-only tickets
Individual tickets without accommodation reach the general public last. Historically this is when the remaining inventory is thinnest and the least convenient dates are what is left.
What you can secure today
More than most people assume. Because we hold an allocation, a group can be placed against a specific performance date now, subject to confirmation by the Passion Play Office. What you need to send is one preferred date and two alternatives — the alternatives are not a formality, they are what makes the request fileable.
Sending a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Nothing becomes binding until a deposit invoice is issued and paid. Until then an allocation is held, not sold.
Why waiting for the public release usually backfires
Two things happen when a group waits. The first is obvious: the best dates go. The second is less obvious but hurts more — accommodation near the village is committed long before tickets are, so a late-bought ticket often comes with a bed an hour’s drive away, or none at all.
For a coach group this is not a detail. It changes the length of the day, the cost of the transfer and how the performance is remembered. The play ends late at night; the journey afterwards is the part guests comment on.
For planning
The decisive booking window for the trade falls in 2027 and 2028, not in 2030. An operator who begins planning in the year of the play is choosing from what is left rather than from what is available.

Is there a waiting list?
Not in the sense of a queue. What exists is a request: you send three dates, we file them against our allocation, and you receive either a confirmation or an honest answer that those dates are gone.
Will prices rise closer to the season?
